This was my first trip away from home as a Gluten Free, Dairy Free girl and I have to say, I was so looking forward to going home to EAT. Due to the lack of entrees free of gluten and dairy, my options were limited which left me very hungry for most of the weekend. I should have packed more gluten free cereal bars!
Breakfast consisted of oatmeal, fresh fruit, slivers of almonds and raisins and thick slices of ham covered in a sauce that I’m sure was not gluten free. This was my breakfast both Saturday and Sunday morning.
Snacks throughout the day were the scrumptious gluten free granola bars that I brought for my flight.
For dinner on Friday night we ate at the Seafood Grille at the Boca Beach Club. I had the best grilled scallops over arugula in a red wine vinaigrette but there was not nearly enough food to fill me up. Chris enjoyed the warm, fresh rolls that were brought out with dinner and it took everything I had to keep myself from diving right into that delicious basket of gluten.
On Saturday night we went to a restaurant called Cielo at the Boca Raton Resort. What a gorgeous resort! I just love spanish architecture and wish I brought my camera to take pictures. At Cielo we had a gift certificate for a four course meal with wine pairings. All four courses were gluten and dairy free much to the disappointment of my husband. Sorry honey! The first course was an arugula and red beet salad tossed in a red wine vinaigrette. The second course were seasoned clams in a spicy coconut broth. They brought out two entrees for us to share; a grouper wrapped in prosciutto over asparagus and blackened sirloin steak over beans and rice. And for dessert we each had a banana and key lime sorbet. Everything was very good and the views from our table were spectacular. The restaurant is located on the 27th floor of the Boca Resort Tower so we had a perfect view of the ocean and marina.
On Sunday afternoon we were getting ready to leave and I just could not take the hunger pains any longer. I did the unthinkable and ordered a turkey and avocado club in a gluten-filled wrap. It was the best meal I have had in four months!
Overall, we had a wonderful time and we feel so lucky to have won such a trip from our son’s school auction!
